Abu Garcia Reel Question...
I was at Academy last night looking at the Abu Garcia baitcasters and had a question. What is the metal rod on top of the reel with a small knob for? I have never seen one on other baitcasters and no one at the 1431 Academy knew a damn thing. One salesperson was rude enough to tell me they were on break and just walked away with out saying who else to go ask and no one was at the counter either. I circled the area in question.

Are you referring to the screw on the right hand side if your holding the reel? If so that's how you acess the brakes on the reel. Unscrew that and the plate on the left side will pop off but will still be attached on a hinge, giving you acess to the brakes.

Ok. That makes sense. So does that mean I can open up the panel to adjust the brakes or use the dial to adjust them. One I looked at had the dial also.

You use the dial for the brakes, you would only need to do this to clean and maintain the reel.

that's the one and only thing that occasionally comes loose on my STX.

[QUOTE=midnight5;223152]I was at Academy last night looking at the Abu Garcia baitcasters and had a question. What is the metal rod on top of the reel with a small knob for? I have never seen one on other baitcasters and no one at the 1431 Academy knew a damn thing. I was at this Academy, (1431), twice in the last 2 weeks. The first time I noticed a lot of holes in the fishing section, and overheard a young customer asking the clerk for "rattlesnakes". The clerk had no clue and went to ask his superviser. He came back with the answer, "we don't carry that lure". I then showed the kid where the limited selection was and gave him some tips.
A week later, last Wed. or Thurs., I went to buy a pack or two of the Trokar hooks on sale. It just happened that my fishing buddy was in there also, looking for Senkos. The aisle was bare, none...nada, so he asked the clerk if some might be in back. The clerk had no idea what a Senko was and had to ask his supervisor. The answer he had, was none in stock, and none coming soon.
My buddy commented that it was a severe management problem, and I agree 100%.
Is there a better time of year to be fully stocked on bass tackle in Central Texas? Evidently this Academy's manager thinks so.
LowellA hot bite=> and a cold Lone Star......Nothing better!

I know what you mean. I was looking for some swim jigs. I checked out several Academys around town and nothing. I finally found some in the Academy in Killeen.

Unfortuantely it has nothing to do with the store managers, well the stock problem. The employee could be new, or just an idiot! Either way we all know where Academy is going.
