First trip of the summer! Going back this weekend and next.
WEATHER: Wacky the whole time. Sun, then pouring, then drizzle, then sun. On and off and on and off. And less wind than I've ever seen. Alos first time I've ever been there with the wind blowing out to sea the whole time. Usually it's the opposite.
BEACH: Water was beautiful! Green and clear with about 3 feet of visibility on the beach. No weed at all. None. I did see more jellyfish than I have seen in the last 8 years though. Didn't catch anything on the beach using a fish finder rig on the second gut, but also barely tried. Does anyone know how to keep a ghost shrimp on a hook in the surf? I've tried rigging it about every way I can imagine and they just fall a part on me.
CHANNEL DOCK: Water not as clear as the beach, but still green. Caught several nice trout, a couple skip jack and perch after perch after perch on live shrimp/ghosts on corks. According to the solunar table, Saturday and Sunday were best days, but not for me. Dealing with the perch kept me from getting any trout. I caught all the trout on Thursday & Friday. Next time I'm gonna rig up those perch and go after some reds. Any tips on that? I've never fished with perch/pinfish before. I also caught a few hardheads on cut bait off the bottom.
No trophies, but enough to make a couple dinners. Plus I taught my 5 year old nephew how to fish and he caught perch after perch and had a blast!
