    Nacogdoches Lake

Up here in beautiful East Texas on a little family biz.

    Fished Nacogdoches Lake

    http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/fishboat...s/nacogdoches/

today for the first time. Great looking lake, Since a lot of my extended family lives within 10 min of the lake, I have wanted to fish it.

Even more since this SAL was caught in 2006.

    Water : Stained
    Water Temp : 55.5 to 57.6
    Wind : North 5-10 mph
    Conditions : Post Frontal
    Time : 2:00 PM - 4: 15 PM

Where to start? Went to main lake points, but instead of beating the bank, I graphed about a 1/2 mile and decided to make a move to the main creek point.

It was a good move when I found structure in 15' to 20' of water. Caught three in 30 mins.

    3.75
    2.00
    2.00

Did not stay out long, but talked to a local and they did not get bit in 30'+ using a DS.

Was going to hit these spots again tomorrow, but realized I am 45 mins from Big Sam, so going to check that out tomorrow. ;D ;D

    Fob... dude...

More reports for East Tx to come.

    EA out.

    Re: Nacogdoches Lake

GOOD LUCK. East Texas lakes can spoil you with all the underwater trees and hydrilla.

Sam Rayburn is 114,500 acres BIG is an understatement....A WHOLE LOT OF WATER TO COVER, TOO....
    Sam Rayburn Latest Guide reports:

By the way, you past Houston County Lake, *only 1,330 acres (Smaller than Lake Austin-1599 acres)

...That is the lake I was talking about last night. A lot of 10-12lb bass caught in that lake! 54 miles, west-southwest of Nacogdoches, Texas.....

Current TPWD report for Houston County:
Jan 9, 2008 Water clear; 53 degrees; 0.32' high. Black bass to 10 pounds are very good on watermelon crankbaits and perch colored Rat-L-Traps near the dam and the marina in 6 - 16 feet.

HERE IS A REPORT FROM TFF on Houston County this week:
buddy and i changed plan from rayburn to county last minute and started heading that way at 6:30 yesterday morning..good thing to because started fishing at 9:45 ish and had an 18# sack by 11..yeah we know slot lake but still nice to see what total weight u can pull ya know..well anyhow we ended up culling out to right at 22 pound with a 6 pound kicker i caught on jig..had a big spot that went 3.6 on scales....total day was around 40 fish all in a span of 8 docks near a creek channel all caught on a jig i built friday night...obviously it works pretty good..lol..first jig ever designed so it was good...on a side note has anyone else ever noticed the house in a creek arm up there that has the stuffed animals in the living room..guy had a lion, lionesse, cape buffalo, elk, bear and even an elephant on his wall..that is crazy

Hey thats pretty cool EA, I did not know you had family in Nacogdoches.

I grew up in Nacogdoches and I have been fishing Lake Nacogdoches and Sam Rayburn most of my life.

I am going to east taxas this weekend to do some hunting but I think I am going to fish Rayburn with one of my friends on Saturday while I am there.

    Re: Nacogdoches Lake

    Fished Rayburn yesterday from 1 p to 4:30 p.

Where do you start out on a Lake like that ???

Just picked somewhere, and started graphing the bottom. Found one good area and caught a 3 lb

Kinda slow after that but the lake is so pretty, just enjoyed looking around.

Burned it across the lake to go in, and was running in 24' 27' of water. Suddenly noticed I was in 5' of water in the dead middle of the lake by the 147 bridge ( I think )

Stopped and fished this main lake hump with a crank. after about 30 mins got a huge bite. Got a look at her from about 45 yards out on a tail walk.. and that is all I want to say about that..

After I reeled in the crank I think I found why I lost this one, had a wad of line tangled in the hooks..

Oh well... Fish was in the 7 to 9 lbs range.

Cannot decide, Rayburn or NAC for today.

I say you go back to Rayburn and fish that hump that you found, If I had to guess that was the 147 bridge. The lake in that area has a lot of humps like that and most of the time there are a lot of fish there all year round.

    Re: Nacogdoches Lake

Thanks guys. Tony yes, I have heard about a red R-trap..

Just little worried about running that lake, stumps everywhere.

Need to get a map. Would be nice to run around with someone who has been on it before.

Got the speed, just do not want to tear off the lower end... or worse.

Not sure where I am going to go..

    Re: Nacogdoches Lake

I'd say EA has seen quite a few fish in that size range surface that far out in the past week alone so he is probably right on the money with his guess.

Good luck out there and see ya when you get back.
