Falcon 4/25-26

Headed down to Falcon earlier this week for the annual boys in the extended family fishing bonanza. I fished all day Wednesday and Thursday. We stay in relatives fish camp trailers in Los Lobos on the south end of the lake. The lake is dropping pretty fast, we had more trouble launching Thursday than Wednesday and the ramp is 20 feet from the water, thank god for 4x4s.

It was hot and windy both days, Thursday more wind than Wednesday. The fishing was a little tough, I didn't catch the numbers that I usually do when down there but almost all of the fish were either 10 inchers or over 5#s. I put a couple in the boat on Wednesday that were over 5 pitching jigs into the flooded brush and with wacky senkos. Caught small keepers with swim baits as well. We caught a ton of short fish in the rip rap by the dam.

Thursday my smallest was just over 7 and the biggest was just under 8. It was so windy that the only way to effectively fish was with swim jigs in coves near brush, which I generally suck at. Although after this week I feel that I am a little better at it. Water was stained as it always is and the guides that we spoke with confirmed that it was tough all over. I love that an average day down there is boating a few 5s and that a mediocre day includes a couple 7s.

All of the fish were skinny, 5 pounds at 24 inches just aint right and the heavy 7s would be 10s pre spawn

We run jugs for the catfish fry at the same time there and we caught 2 bass over 8#s, a 4 foot spotted gar, loads of cats and a couple of hubcap sized turtles on cut up chicken thighs. I may start using cut up chicken as a trailer and for sure I am going to start using the jugs on lake austin, nothing better than fresh catfish.

Here's a little fish porn, still kinda bummed that I didn't catch a DD, maybe next time. BTW, we didn't see any pirates and I was hoping to see that new kickass DPS boat with the 50 cal.
