New Personal Best Trout
Mar 09th, 2010, 3:07pm

Launched at the boat hole in Corpus around 8 this morning and picked up my personal best 21 inch trout on a top water pictured below. I had numerous hits and landed 1 other dink. Then the bite stopped.

One of my best fishing trips ever was with a guide fishing near the Boat Hole and in ULM...middle of August '05.

Yeah, it was my first time there and I'm glad I tried it out. Besides this one and a dink it was pretty dead though.

Congrats on PB...

Topwater action is the BEST...Even at the end of winter-time.

Yeah I had my head turned and when I felt the bite I turned around to see a giant tail sticking out of the water on its way down. I guess he hit the topwater and went airborne.

Glen, weren't you just in the IT'S ON pic with the white bass with Skiff?  I'm impressed if you just made it to the coast, that's hard core.
Congrats on the PB, that's a good looking trout.

Update:

Thursday:
I fished Morris and Cummings Cut and the oyster reefs/grass flats on the eastern side of the cut. It was the most frustrating fishing I have ever done on the coast. I was watching large reds, drum, and sheep head feed off of the bottom of the flats, but could not get them to take anything. I bet I saw a total of 30 fish in the flats.

Friday:
Got skunked at the JFK Causeway and Humble channel in the afternoon. It was a real dead zone out there...

Saturday:
Went back to Aransas Pass and fished in the Sailboat channel at an intersection with some oyster reefs. Caught about 20 trout on arties there with only 2 keepers.

Sunday:
Drifted Demit Island in some nasty conditions early this morning. I wanted to throw a topwater but it was too wavy to get it working. We saw a group fishing the same spot and raking in fish after fish. So we moved more towards them and started catching. Then the bite turned off and we moved closer to the island again and I pulled in a 19.5 inch red... followed by a small spec.

In summary the fish were caught inside muddy/grassy bottoms of windblown shorelines, and the boat hole had the largest trout.

Right now the redfish are real shallow. You can see their tails above the water. Must throw a 1/8oz jig head with GULP shrimp and hold on.

Another favorite topwater lure for salt, is the Spook Jr. in Bone.
