  Lake Buchanan

Lake Buchanan is the second largest of the Highland Lakes in Central Texas. It has 124 miles of shoreline and the widest point is just under 5 miles. Water clarity varies significantly at the lake from clear to heavily stained. The cover and structure are also varied throughout the lake. The area near the dam and east side of the lake is rocky, while the west side is more like a flatland type reservoir. There are rock piles, ledges, chunk rock and even flooded brush scattered throughout the lake.

While Buchanan is most known for striped and white bass, it also contains an under-rated largemouth population. Anglers have the best luck with largemout in the spring and summer months. For areas with stained water, bass stay shallow. For more clear areas (like the lower section), you will catch more fish with topwaters lures, spinnerbaits and crankbaits. These can all be fished along rocky banks. For docks and fallen timber, use jigs and plastic worms.
